Strawberry Cobbler
Take strawberry shortcake to a whole new level with Strawberry Cobbler! It’s a warm fruit dessert with bubbly, juicy strawberries topped with honey biscuits and honey whipped cream.

What I love the most about summer is Pennsylvania goes hard with fresh strawberries.
Local farms start hosting strawberry festivals and invite the public to pick their own strawberries (although if you don’t want to pick your own, you can easily buy baskets from the farmers).
Strawberries are my favorite berry if not my favorite fruit overall, so I have strawberry recipes galore.
Although I enjoy stirring them into some coconut yogurt for breakfast, I also love them for dessert such as this Strawberry Cobbler.
This strawberry cobbler recipe is different than most cobblers because I used honey to sweeten everything – the strawberries, the biscuits, and (the best part) the honey whipped cream.
Sometimes I call it strawberry shortcake cobbler because of the honey biscuits on top (rather than a traditional batter you pour on top as seen with my peach cobbler for two).
That’s because some shortcake recipes such as my chocolate strawberry shortcake are made with biscuits.
So grab your cast iron skillet and your berries to get started!

What is a cobbler?
A strawberry cobbler is a fruit-based dessert where there is dough on top, as opposed to a streusel topping like you would typically find on my raspberry crisp, apple crisp for two, or apple crumble for two.
After researching multiple recipes, the traditional way to make a cobbler is by plopping thick biscuit-like dough on top (looks like a cobblestone, hence cobbler).
Sometimes it’s a pancake-like batter as seen with my blueberry cobbler for two.
Or you can totally have fun with it and use marshmallows like I did for my Strawberry Smores Cobbler.

Ingredients For Strawberry Cobbler
To make your cast iron cobbler with strawberries, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Strawberries: The fresher, the better. You can also use strawberry pie filling and skip mixing it with cornstarch and honey
- Lemon juice: Balances out the sweetness
- Honey: Helps with sweetness
- Cornstarch: Helps thicken the berry filling once juices are released
- Vanilla Enhances the filling flavor
- All-purpose flour: Helps form the biscuits and makes them less sticky
- Baking powder: Helps make a tender cobbler dough as well as helps it rise
- Salt: Enhances the flavor of the dough
- Butter: Adds fat and moistness
- Honey: Sweetens the biscuits
- Heavy cream: Liquid needed to bring the biscuit dough together

How To Make Strawberry Cobbler
Here’s how to make your easy strawberry cobbler from scratch:
- Mix together strawberries, honey, lemon juice, cornstarch, and vanilla then add to skillet.
- Make biscuits by cutting butter into the flour, baking powder, and salt then stir in honey and heavy cream.
- Top strawberry filling with biscuits to make a cobbler pattern.
- Bake at 400F for 30-35 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown and strawberries are bubbling.
Cool for 15 minutes then serve warm or at room temperature.
Store leftover strawberry shortcake cobbler at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.

What To Serve With Strawberry Cobbler
As mentioned earlier, I served my cast iron cobbler with honey whipped cream.
However, you can also serve it with another whipped cream flavor such as:
- Traditional homemade whipped cream
- Strawberry whipped cream
- Maple whipped cream
- Cream cheese whipped cream
- Chocolate whipped cream
- Peanut butter whipped cream
You can also serve your warm fruit cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream or strawberry ice cream.

Strawberry Cobbler

Ingredients
Strawberry Filling
- 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons clover honey
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Honey Biscuits
- 1 + 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon table salt
- 1/4 cup (2 ounces or 4 tablespoons) cold unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces
- 1/4 cup clover honey
- 1/4 cup cold heavy whipping cream
- 1 recipe Honey Whipped Cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F. Have an 8-inch cast iron skillet or similar heat-proof skillet or pan ready.
- For the filling: In a large bowl mix together the strawberries, lemon juice, honey, cornstarch, and vanilla. Add to the skillet or pan.
- For the biscuits: In the bowl of a food processor, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter and pulse a few times or until the mixture looks like coarse pebbles. Add the honey and cream then pulse until a dough forms.
Alternatively you can add the dry ingredients to a large bowl, cut in the butter by hand with a pastry cutter, and stir in the honey and cream with a wooden spoon. - Divide the dough into 7-8 pieces and shape each piece into a round biscuit. Place the dough on top of the strawberry mixture.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and strawberry mixture is bubbling. Cool for at least 15 minutes before serving warm with honey whipped cream.
Store leftovers at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
Notes
- You can also substitute the strawberry mixture with strawberry pie filling.

What a perfect summer dessert! I like that you sweetened with honey! Yum!
I made this last night in my cast iron skillet as you show in your post. The filling tasted like metal. I realized after the fact that you’re supposed to avoid acidic foods in cast iron. After washing my cast iron, it was completely stripped of all it’s coating. Oops. Did you have this issue when you made it?
