Peanut Butter Frozen Hot Chocolate

I’ve been obsessed with cold summer drinks lately, which is unusual because this time last year, I barely touched them.
First of all, I don’t like ice in my drinks. I love coffee but hate iced coffee because halfway through, my drink is too watered down.
If I’m at a summer party, I need to go for the cans of pop submerged in ice so it is cold enough without needing ice cubes.
Even frappuccinos from the coffee shops I didn’t buy frequently.
Now I can’t get enough. I’ve been obsessed with cold brew coffee and usually keep a pitcher in my fridge.
If I’m out of cold brew and need cold coffee asap, I’ll make Japanese style iced coffee.
I’ve made watermelon sangria, cream soda floats, and affogatos.
When I order at coffee shops, I either get a s’mores frappuccino or an iced mocha (yes there are the dreaded ice cubes, but if I drink it fast enough, it doesn’t get watered down as quickly).
Notice how most of these drinks involve coffee.
It’s no secret I love coffee, but I can’t drink it in the evenings; otherwise I’d be up all night.
During the winter, this would be no problem as I would just make hot chocolate.
However, it’s summer. A hot, humid summer. Who’s thinking about making hot chocolate right now?! Certainly not me.
That’s when I got the idea to make a frozen hot chocolate by blending in some ice, just like a frappuccino but without the buzz.
However, I wasn’t going to stop at chocolate. Nope, I was going to add chocolate’s best friend – peanut butter.
Peanut Butter Frozen Hot Chocolate topped off with peanut butter whipped cream.
Now this is a summer drink with ice I can get behind.
I think the blender is both a wonderful yet underestimated appliance.
I find myself using it several times a week, whether it’s for drinks, sauces, popsicles, taco dip, or simply crushing ice.
I almost thought about not buying one when I first moved out for college. Now I can’t live without it.
Here’s a tip to help you measure the ice – most blenders have marks along the side that say 1 cup, 2 cup, etc.
When you measure the ice for this recipe, just add enough ice to reach the 2 cup line.
Most frozen hot chocolate recipes use a packet of hot cocoa mix; however that’s not how I roll.
All you need is some cocoa powder and powdered sugar to go along with the other ingredients.
I decided to amp up my usual whipped cream by making peanut butter whipped cream. You also add more chocolate flavor by making chocolate whipped cream.
Then I drizzled my frozen hot chocolate with some peanut butter fudge sauce and topped it with some chopped peanut butter cups.
Seriously, how can you not smile after one sip?

I’ve never had frozen hot chocolate,n or had the urge to even try it, but this recipe makes me want to. I can’t wait to try it. I hope it’s as tasty as it looks.
I hope you enjoy it!
This sounds perfect. What a wonderful, cooling treat. Pinning for later. xo, Catherine
Would you believe I’ve never had a frozen hot chocolate before? I like hot chocolate but for some reason frozen doesn’t appeal to me. It probably stems from the fact that I don’t like chocolate milk and I imagine it tasting the same. That being said however, this version with peanut butter has me reconsidering!
I’m so glad you’ve climbed aboard the icy-drink-train, Carla! It’s been so damn hot here, I’ve been obsessed with cold ‘n icy drinks. I’ve probably been drinking waaaaaay too many iced mochas but who cares? Now I need to make myself this amazing PB frozen hot chocolate.
This looks insanely good! I really wish I had all the ingredients at home right now, so I could make it immediately.
You had me at “peanut butter whipped cream” for sure!
